There are many advances in period dignity to celebrate \u2013 but there is still so much more to achieve this Menstrual Hygiene Day<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Today (May 28) marks the international awareness day\u2019s ninth year, nine years where the conversation around periods has continued to open up.<\/p>\n

Millions of people around the world who have periods remain discriminated against for the simple fact they menstruate. Many live without access to safe period products and are left with no choice but to use unhygienic alternatives as a result.<\/p>\n

At Hey Girls, our team are dedicated to improving period dignity here in the UK and Australia, ending the stigma surrounding menstruation and ending period poverty once and for all.<\/p>\n

This year, Kate Smith, Co-Founder and Donations Manager at Hey Girls is once again calling on more people in the UK to reverse the taboo and be more open about their periods.<\/p>\n

Kate said: \u201cFor centuries, the stigma around periods has existed due to poor education on the topic \u2013 fuelling poor menstrual hygiene as a result.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople who have periods have been forced to feel ashamed of something perfectly natural \u2013 something they shouldn\u2019t feel they have to hide.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are so many little things people around the world can do to help break that stigma. Simple acts like talking openly and honestly with family and friends, or not hiding period products when you reach the supermarket till, are good places to start.<\/p>\n

\u201cSmall things go a long way in influencing change once and for all.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"End<\/p>\n

First marked in 2014, Menstrual Hygiene Day aims to create a world where no-one is held back because they menstruate. A world where they are empowered to live their lives without shame \u2013 and where they have access to safe and hygienic period products.<\/p>\n

Hey Girls has donated more than 21 million safe and environmentally-friendly period products since its launch in 2018, thanks to its \u201cBuy One, Donate One\u201d model.<\/p>\n

Those to have benefitted include women\u2019s refuges up and down the UK, as well as foodbanks and homeless shelters.<\/p>\n
