Councils across the UK are stepping up in the fight to end period poverty – one of those helping lead the charge is Northern Ireland’s Antrim & Newtownabbey Borough Council. Here, we look at Hey Girls’ fabulous new partners.

Our products will now be stocked across the Antrim & Newtownabbey borough – from Ballyclare Town Hall through to local community centres.

Education will also be offered by both the Hey Girls team and the council to raise awareness around period health and reusable, environmentally-friendly products.

The fantastic partnership was agreed last month after the council’s community and planning committee agreed to a six-month pilot programme.

Georgie Nicholson, Partnerships and Contracts Manager at Hey Girls, said: “All of us at Hey Girls are so pleased to have Antrim & Newtownabbey Borough Council on board.

“We have a huge fight on our hands to eradicate period poverty here in the UK, and it means the world to have local authorities join us in our mission.

“The products they will stock across their public buildings and community centres will have such a big impact on those living nearby and help ensure no person is left behind.”

The council is one of many to have signed up to work alongside Hey Girls, with fellow Northern Irish local authority Belfast City Council having also joined our fight.

Belfast saw “unprecedented demand” following the partnership, with more than 2,750 orders made in the first 24 hours.

Both partnerships come after the Northern Ireland Assembly passed legislation making it compulsory for all schools, colleges and public buildings to provide free tampons and pads in their bathrooms.

All of our award-winning products are designed with safety at the forefront and are biodegradable or recyclable.

If you work for a local authority and would like to stock Hey Girls products, contact Georgie for more information.
